Jetslide News Reader

Jetslide its aim is to provide a simple way to get the latest and most relevant news for you on your mobile or desktop browser. With Jetsli.de you get the latest news out of twitter, hackernews, delicious, dzone, reddit and digg. Jetslide prefers articles with more retweets or diggs etc. and tries really hard to avoid that you’ll waste your time e.g. it reduces duplicates and spam!

1. Latest News

Get news whenever you like

When you log in you will be able to further improve your news reading experience. If you select “Read Mode:Auto“, then every time you hit the ‘next’ arrow (or CTRL+right arrow) the current articles will be marked as read and only newer articles will pop up the next time you slide through. This way you can come back every time you want: in 2 hours or 2 days (at the moment up to 7 days) so, with the Auto-Read-Mode you’ll always see fresh and relevant things and you won’t miss important articles of a topic!

BTW: Get the latest news about Jetslide at twitter or at Jetslide itself ;)

2. Mobile

Get news whereever you like

Read the news on your mobile device like Android. Or click on the ‘Read it later’ button to read the articles when you are offline or when you have time.

3. Geeky

Use geeky queries like e.g. “elasticsearch^2 OR solr” which boosts articles containing elasticsearch. Or create queries like “sources.nick:(timetabling^2 OR pannous)” which gives you articles of the twitter users timetabling and pannous but jetslide should prefer timetabling a bit ;) . Or search in the description of the article via description:mykeyword (description found in the HTML) or search in the text which was used to share the article via maxShareText:mykeyword

To get posts directly sorted against the share count of one network you can append the sort parameter. E.g. sort=reddit.com will give you the articles from reddit and sort it against the share count of reddit. You can even read articles from your friends in realtime: Log in and append &sort=latest to the URL or append &forceTwitter=true and you’ll fetch fresh articles from a twitter search (warning: this is slow as it needs to crawl the URLs from the tweets)!

Additionally there is a special field called sources.tw_nick which was introduced to query only the nick names of twitter (or use source.nick if you don’t care exlusion). With that you can search people posting similar stuff to your own content:

sources.tw_nick:timetabling

But be sure you have logged in some minutes before as Jetslide needs your tweets! One more geeky feature is the realtime fetching of articles from twitter. Append ‘&forceTwitter=true’ to the URL and have fun!

Addtional filters via URL parameter are provided to increase the geekiness of your jetslides: for language, article count, twitter user and date. Those filters are all easily tweakable over the URL, through the webpage or even directly in the search box. Let me give some more details about the available fields and you can not only create fancy queries like ’sources.type:twitter.com’

text, title, url, lang, imageUrl, tags, sources.url, sources.type, sources.nick,
oldestCreatedAt, maxShareCount, maxShareText, quality, description

E.g. get interesting articles via domain

domain:techcrunch.com

Then there is not only the nested ’sources’, but also max_sources which contains the sources with the maximal share count of every type (twitter.com, reddit.com, delicious.com, digg.com and news.ycombinator.com).

Navigate with keys! Use CTRL and arrow keys (left, right) to jetslide through your topics.

4. Personal

Jetslide prefers articles in your timeline for the requested terms. But when you log out and no Jetslide owner is specified in the URL you can easily switch to “none-personalized” mode.

See always who posted the articles to follow the people and see where the articles were posted (hackernews, digg, …) to discuss the topic with interested people!  If you move your mouse over the users’ links you’ll see numbers in brackets which lists the share count.

Easily share your jetslide with others – it is just an URL and one click away! Use the buttons on the bottom right.

Benefits of being logged in:

  • Boost articles of your twitter friends
  • Jetslide tracks keywords for you (e.g. on twitter)
  • Use mark as read
  • Saved Jetslide
